Lost policy details

In 1991 I took out a mortgage with the Halifax and took out an endowment pension policy with Prudential. In 2000 my wife and I parted and sold up. No further premiums were paid on the policy and the documents are long gone. Only recently I contacted the Prudential about this policy and they said that they know nothing about it. Firstly, as 9 years of premiums were paid, will there be money owed back to me and secondly what can I do now? The bank can only go back 7 years so they cannot assist.

If the policy still had a value, they would retain details. It is more likely it was surrendered at the time. It would then have no value and would naturally drop off the systems over time.what can I do now?
