Barclays re-mortgage

We had an existing mortgage which was coming to the end of the term in April 2020 but also an interest only and a mortgage reserve that needed paying off. In February we had a telephone appointment to start a mortgage application to cover the amounts of £78500. There seems to be huge delays with the dealing of our mortgage application. I emailed the barclays adviser on 6/4/20 as we had not heard anything for weeks and was told that everything was fine but there was some system issue that was not sending out the offer to us so she had reported this. Another week had gone by so I had to email again on 15/4/20. Today I have had a reply saying the underwriter would like us to confirm if we have been affected by the Covid 19 situation. Is this not a stupid question?

No, it's a sensible question in the current climate.
Answer it truthfully and wait their response.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.4 -
But if everything was supposed to be fine last week, why are they now asking this question. It just feels like they do not want to lend us the money and creating delays along the way.0

I am currently remortgaging with Barclays, what ever the lender asks, we give answer or give. Their money their rules. If you think it's too much or ridiculous you can try another lender. They have to abide by regulation and lend responsibility.
No point in lending you money if you know your going to be let go is it?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Barclays are asking everyone. My application with them was with the underwriters today and my broker rang me to say they'd asked this same question and that they had to ask everyone. Seemed sensible given how many people are currently furloughed or have lost their jobs which might have changed since the application was submitted.
The whole process with Barclays has taken what seems like forever though. Application submitted on 16th March so 5 weeks today and still waiting for the offer!1
