Hello all
I have purchased some rope lights to go round the outside of the house and some Christmas lights silhouttes to hang on the front of the house but how do i actually hang them or attached them to the house? What fittings etc would i need?
We have never put lights up before only in the windows indoors so are complete novices!
Any advice and tips would be gratefully received. :T
Thank you in advance

Cable ties are good (from any DIY store in the electrical dept) as you can "tie" your lights to any bit of the house that sticks out (eg round guttering supports etc)
If you have timber fascias you can put hooks, screws or nails in to these - and leave them for next year - and then cable tie onto these.
If you have a slated front to the house or ewant to fix to the roof slates you can get an old coat hanger and form it into a long S hook (like a butchers hook) that you can slide under one tile and hook onto the one below - then cable tie
If you are fixing to a brick / rendered wall you could drill and then insert a rawl plug into the hole before screwing in a hook or an eye - then cable tie.
If doing this into render / pebble dash be careful that it is sound - you dont want to pull the front of your house off! You MAY want to put a blob of silicone sealant into the rawl plug before screwing in the eye (stainless steel if possible) so that you dont get ingress of damp!

Thank you loads for the info! Off to B&Q first thing in the morning for Raw Plugs, cable ties and screw hooks.
We have got the render / pebble dash wall so will get dh to be extra careful there! It is the sort of thing he would do - take half the house off :rotfl:
Thank you again for the info :T0
