Co-workers partner frontline nhs nurse

Are you saying his wife has Covid19? And he should be isolating as he has been in contact with her? Or do you mean neither he nor her have it (that they know)? I'm a little unsure.
I can't see how every partner (or household person) who shares a house with the NHS Covid19 key workers could stay at home.
My mam sadly died last week of Covid19 and the amount of nurses, doctors, workers on her ward alone was eye watering, they were everywhere, I can't see how what you are suggesting would be feasible. Especially when neither of them have it (they they know).
If it worries you, you need to decide how much, and take steps to protect yourself as you feel necessary. However in your circumstances I don't see what a company can do, when an employee doesn't have Covid19 and no family members do. I think it's down to you now and how you feel.
If I've misread and his wife does indeed have it and he is at work, then I would be having words with your employer as he should be in self isolation.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....3 -
Something of an aside from the main question, but how are people who are not front line staff getting hold of masks? Anything on line has delivery dates weeks away, and DIY stores have removed them from stock so that they can provide them to front line workers.

On our local Facebook page there are people making them in pretty colours. Have no idea if they are in any way helpful but my goodness, they are funny and you do need something to laugh about just now.TELLIT01 said:Something of an aside from the main question, but how are people who are not front line staff getting hold of masks? So there's some confusion.
Firstly the bog standard facemask - DIY store, has more or less zero effect.
Masks in general are better as a prevention of spreading from those who have it, as opposed to stopping people catching it - though there is some limited help.
And lots of masks that are sewn together are totally useless.
Masks work in a hospital setting as part of a layered defence - hand hygiene, fresh uniforms, gloves, masks and eye protection; as well as conscious effort to not touch face etc.
Basically wear one if it makes you feel better, but it's a placebo.0 -
OP - Furlough is not grated on medical grounds. It is a facility available to employers to keep people employed where they would otherwise be laid off or made redundant. What you colleague's wife does for a living is none of your employers business. Neither is it their responsibility to asses what risk this poses. If you fee uncomfortable with attending work then I am sure that (as we are doing) your employer will discuss options for you temporarily withdrawing yourself from the workplace. As an aside, the work that your colleague's wife is currently doing is vital and nothing short of heroic. She is saving lives!0

Does the OP seriously think that the wife is coming home and putting his co worker at risk?
For us out there working, be it front line on Covid wards, ITU, funeral directors, the whole gauntlet of people who are risking going into work every day, do you not think we are more conscientious about who we live with?
Now do you know if all your other co workers are sticking to the government guidelines? Because I will bet you that anyone who has a teenager who drive isnt
You are as much as risk from them then anyone who's partner is working on ITU0 -
Those were my thoughts too, but the Mayor of London is telling people to fashion masks from scarfs or bandanas. All that is likely to do is give the wearer a false sense of security and a feeling they no longe have to worry about social distancing.Comms69 said:So there's some confusion.

Thursday 8pm - stand outside your house and clap to show your support for the NHS.Friday 9am - try and get someone furloughed from work as his wife works for the NHS and may infect you.3

I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0

Indeed, i often question the logic of the Mayor of London and his statementsTELLIT01 said:
