Furlough - if you work in payroll

Surely every company will have at least one person who cannot be furloughed - the person who does payroll, as how else would all other employees be paid?
Is it therefore possible to be furloughed for 3 weeks on, then one week off to do payroll, then return to furlough again?
Thanks

If its all computerised then it can all be done when working from home0

They are not all in-house. Many companies use an external service to operate their payroll - perhaps their auditors or a specialist payroll company.

But you couldn't be furloughed and run payroll from home as that would break one of the conditions for furloughing.unforeseen said:If its all computerised then it can all be done when working from home

Ok thanks, but we don't in our case. It's just me and I'm an employee. So obviously I will need to work at least 3 evenings a month to prepare the payroll. So what happens in that situation?General_Grant said:They are not all in-house. I do payroll, I'm not furloughed, im working from home and in the office to run the payroll. Our solicitors said in their webinar that companies can do 3 weeks furlough, a week in work, then 3 week furloughed again if necessary....0

Ok great thanks. So you'd just work out the furloughed amount for the whole month, divide by the number of working days and multiply by the number of days actually furloughed to get the revised furlough amount?0

Yes that sounds right, ours is about 50/50 for our time sheet period. So ours will show 3 entries: salary, a negative adjustment and a line for 'furlough'.0
