SICK PAY

Hello, We are a small hairdressers and one of your staff have been off and claiming  sick pay from us  since early January 2020, What I want to know is how you get this money back, I have  not seen any reductions in our monthly paye tax/In bill ,,do I have to contact the Inland Revenge to get this addressed, Regards Tom,.

  • Employers are no longer be able to reclaim SSP (Unless it is linked to COVID-19).
    The Percentage Threshold Scheme (PTS), which allowed employers to 
    reclaim Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) in certain circumstances, was abolished from 6 April 2014.  Under PTS employers could reclaim SSP where the SSP paid was more than 13% of the Class 1 NIC due for the month.

    Perhaps it's time to look at terminating the individual's employment on (in)capability grounds, otherwise you will need to continue to pay their SSP entitlement (they are entitled to 28 weeks on SSP).
