Remortgage dilemma....

Hi All,
Hoping everybody is good, well and coping with the current climate.
We have a dilemma which I'm hoping some of the good people on here could assist us with.....
I currently have a fixed term mortgage (on my own) coming to the end in june of this year and my girlfriend moved in with me a few months back with a view to buying a house together sometime soonish (3-12 months) depending on how long the country is affected by this current very sad situation.
So my dilemma is this...do I remortgage now (on my own) with a new 2 year fixed term and just swallow the early repayment fee when we move (likely to be £1k-2k) or let my current mortgage term run out and gamble on how much my extra monthly payment will be increased by on a variable rate until we move??
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, including other strategies or anything else which I may not have considered (likely).
Many thanks all. Stay safe and well

Some lenders' tracker mortgages have no early repayment fees. Which lender are you currently with?
Edit: The point is this would be cheaper than the standard variable rate.0 -

Then you are in luck, Nationwide tracker mortgages don't have ERCs.1
