Reduced train/tube service COVID-19

Options
Hi,
This is my first post!
Is anyone else finding it unfair that we are charged peak full price for travelling by train/tube (essential workers) when the timetable is now reduced? I have contacted the rail companies who state that they have to continue charging these amounts because their income has dropped. I'm quite shocked that they are allowed to do this. On the weekend, when trains are more infrequent, prices are dropped to reflect this so I don't understand how this has been allowed. I'm planning on contacting the travel ombudsman but I wanted to know if anyone else has already done this with any outcome?

Thanks!

It would seem sensible to make all travel off peak at the moment due to lack of demand, as there is no need to try and make leisure travellers avoid the peak times as they shouldn't be travelling anyway and all trains should have plenty of space at the moment.

I think they are actually doing the opposite of what you're saying i.e. making all travel require an "Anytime" ticket, rather than being allowed on an "Off Peak" ticket.

The train companies are losing money.
This money will have to be made up and guess what either they continue to charge the peak full price or come post Corona virus the fares will have to be increased to offset this cost.
In a nutshell we all will be paying now and post corona virus for the loss in earnings.  Is this fair, depends on who you speak too you will receive different answers.
