New Mortgage, old mortgage payment taken!

Hi. We have just remortgaged from Halifax to NatWest and the completion date on the new mortgage was the same day as a payment on the old (Halifax) mortgage so a payment was taken by Halifax on the day of completion. I don’t think this money was included within the redemption figures but can’t check as I can’t get hold of anyone to talk to at Halifax and they don’t currently have an email address to use. We completed on the 1st April. Does anyone know how long it takes for the bank to refund the payment (assuming it is due)? Or does anyone know how else I can’t speak to someone at the Halifax.
Any help appreciated.

This is a very common occurrence and usually, the extra payment is not included in the redemption figure. The lenders normally return it without any action required once they know the direct debit has cleared. So, its about 7 working days for them to know its not coming back and then another 3 days on top to get back to your account. 2 weeks during normal times but may be a bit slower during this period due to lower staffing levels.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I remortgaged away from Halifax in 2018. Like you my new mortgage completed on the 1st and Halifax took a payment the same day. I was told to expect this and they refunded it automatically two weeks later.
