joedenise said:The OOD yeast will still work but not as well. You might a bit extra but not sure about that. Also it's worth activating it before putting into the flour as you'll be able to be sure it works before making the bread - at least that way you won't be wasting the flour if the yeast doesn't work.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Hey folks. I’m still reading through and tallying for the April thread but figured I might as well start working on May’s. On Saturday I ventured to get more meat for my freezer because there are forecasts for a meat shortage here in the US due to several meat packing plants having Coronavirus infections and being shut down. I also made a trip to Whole Foods later on for a few things and picked up more meat. On Sunday I had a food delivery and will get another on Thursday as well. For reference, I’m in New York City so the prices will seem high to some of you.$11.52 at a local meat store for chicken leg quarters, ground pork, and something else I’m forgetting.
$8.00 at fruit and veg market for 2 eggplants, a bottle of soy sauce and a container of cherry tomatoes.
$19.24 at a supermarket for 3 cans of sardines, park spare ribs, and some pork baby back ribs.$46.67 at Whole Foods Market for milk, yoghurt, a frozen dinner, chopped frozen kale, pork loin chops, some steaks, and various veg like sweet potatoes, onions, lemon, lime, etc.
$84.00 including $4 tip for my FreshDirect delivery on Sunday. This included 2x each of berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries), eggs, parsley, mushrooms, bread, sliced rare roast beef, some cheeses, bacon, pâté, and another milk, accidentally. I had forgotten I’d put some in the order!
$40.00 for local cheeses! A couple other friends and I clubbed together to buy some cheese from a local cheese monger who can’t sell directly out of their stores anymore. They’re selling off huge chunks out of their wheels of cheese. We’re splitting the “I Miss My Friends” box http://www.crownfinishcaves.com/store/i-miss-my-friends-box.All the descriptions and writing on the site are hilarious and made us want to support them even more.
TOTALS SO FAR:
$209.43 / $450.00
3 / 10 NSD
From Sunday’s delivery, one of my blackberries was totally mushed up while the other was missing. One of my eggs was also broken too. I was able to to get store credits for these and the $10.49 is being applied to my order coming on Thursday morning. In that order I’ll be getting a whole chicken, some more rare roast beef, shrimp, catfish, pesto, blackberries that will hopefully won’t be battered, and a bottle of wine. This should have my freezer fully stocked for the rest of the month in terms of meat and other things. The roast beef, half the cheese, the bacon, etc all immediately went into the freezer so I don’t have to bother going out for much other than fresh veg, yoghurt and fruit for the next few weeks. I’m in a really high density area in Brooklyn and people in my neighborhood really aren’t socially distancing well enough in our open air markets. Sigh.9 -
Am I still ok to join? It's been a while since I posted on MSE. There are 5 of us, me, Dh and one teen, and 2 ds's. I'm going to start with £300, which would normally do us easily, but we're quite obviously going through a lot more currently. Last weeks food delivery was £54.15, and we havent spent since.
We have baked, scones, cookies.and a cake, and had cakes.delivered by dh's aunt.
I'm veggie, was vegan and aiming to go back there. The rest of the family are meat eaters, but I do have some sneaky veggie days, pasta bake, quiche etc.11 -
