Porting a mortgage

WE have exchanged on the sale of our house and close to exchange on the house we are buying. We have a mortgage with Santander and the plan was to port it. Santander are now saying they will not consider applications to port mortgages for any properties over £500k (the one we are purchasing is over that amount). We were relying on that mortgage to help with costs. Is there anything we can do?
