mortgage surplus funds missing

hi,
we completed our remortgage on the 1st april from virgin to halifax. we were taking out extra funds and were told this could take up to 3 days from completion date to arrive in our bank account.
it is now the 8th april and i have not received any funds. i have spoken with my bank who have received nothing at all and i have spoken with the solicitors acting on behalf of halifax and they say the funds were sent on the 1st.
i have had no correspondence from the solicitors at any point to even let me know that the remortgage had completed, but it has now.
i am awaiting  proof of payment but it turns out these solicitors like doing things very slowly and are not very good at talking to eachother. i appreciate in the current climate companies are working on bare minimum staff but when nearly £20,000 just goes missing it is very concerning.
i would just like some advice on where i stand from a legal perspective and what to do next, i feel very lost and confused.

thankyou

Sent by who to whom? From the solicitors to you? When did you last speak to them? What method did they use to send the money? Have you asked them to investigate? The banks can talk to each other if necessary. It'll turn up anyway, funds don't just disappear.

    The money will get found.
Ask the solicitors to confirm the account number and sort code the money was transferred from and to and the date/time it was transferred. Ask them to speak to their bank to put a trace on the money.

In the meantime, call your bank with the information above and ask them to do the same.
I used to work for a bank and this sort of thing can happen, it just goes in to a suspense account. If it is with your bank, it will get applied to your account and any lost interest (if there is any) would get paid to you. This assumes the solicitors have actually transferred the money in the first place.

Today is only 5 working days after the remortgage was completed. Be patient , like many businessess solicitors are not working at optimum effiency. The post isn't as quick as it is normal is either.
