Has anyone else fallen foul of the Bank's affordability criteria. I have submitted an application online with them, answered several queries they lodged at me only to be told in their eyes, I can't afford a mortgage with them. I checked my budget and my maths stack up to be able to afford £440 per month easily.
When challenged about their criteria they just bang on about me not being able to afford to borrow.
They have told me to keep trying until I can get a mortgage I can afford but won't give me an amount or indication of that!

Your assessment of affordability will differ to that of the Bank. Bank's are required to assess affordability if interest rates were to rise significantly. At levels far above where they currently are. You cannot challenge their lending criteria. That's a commercial internal decision for the bank that covers a whole variety of risk factors.0

If you have a basic income and that is all, it could be worth looking at their affordability calculator - https://rbsintermediaries.hdddirectsolutions.co.uk/Natwest
It gets a bit tricky if you have commission/bonuses/Overtime or benefits (other than child benefit).I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
