It is my first job in uk (i have worked before in ireland)... I have heard that they can not charge me for NI.
And one more question - is it possible that persons who works 4 days less than me on the same position and with same hourly rate , have the same salary??
Probably yes because in every little helps company everything is possible;)

The same salary being quoted for the other worker is likley to be the standard wage for the grade which is then paid pro-rata for the hours they work.

If youwork in the UK then providing your earnings are sufficent (approx £100 p/w) then you are liable to pay NI.

  • and my payroll is ok??
  • Hi I am assuming that you are not a British citizen... Are you from a country within the EU? I ask because I recently worked with some Polish students who were over here for a couple of months. While they had to pay tax and NI which came off automatically they had been informed that they could reclaim the tax and NI and that they would get this probably, at the end of the tax year.
If you are working and living here on a permant basis then I presume you would be liable for both.

From reading this http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cnr/faqs_general.htm it appears that question 1 applies with regards to re-claiming NI for non-residents

  • You would be better ringing your tax office. Payroll should have a note of the number if it's not on your payslip. BR means that you've had 22% tax taken off and no tax allowances set against your wage. The tax offices are usually open till 8pm for enquiries via the telephone.

You need to complete form P86 which is printable from www.hmrc.gov.uk.
If you are here for a year or more, or from an EU or Commonwealth country, then ytou will be due full personal allowances and your code will change to 522L cumulative which will give you a refund of the tax paid.
If you are only here for a short time or from outside the EU/commonwealth, then your status and any refund may have to be decided at the end of the tax year.

You will not get your overpaid tax refunded until the end of the tax year because you are on a week 1 code (522L wk1). However if you complete P86 and P91 forms for the Inland Revenue they should then have enough information to change your code to a cumulative code (522L) and you would receive your refund before the end of the tax year via your employer.
