Furloughed if you were fired for performance?

After had working for this company for 7 weeks me and many others were fired one day before the government published the retention scheme. We were told that we were fired because if in lock down the company couldn't afford to pay us. But on papers they fired everybody who hadn't hit the target in probation . After 10 days they called to say that they want us to be rehired in furlough and made me sign a new agreement aswell. And than today they called to say they can't do the furlough scheme anymore because the gov wouldn't pay if I was fired for performance... Does anyone know if this is true? or if I am entitled for more explanation? any other advice would be helpful please. Thanks
