Working while on Furlong

Since the 17th March I have been on furlong I'm running out of money. So I have been offered a 12 week contract with another company. They have said on the contract before I sign it check I can work while on furlong. I don't know GOV website says I CANNOT work for my current employer but don't mention working for another. Also the new 12 week contract job offer pays a lot less than my current job so as well salary from 12 week contact I would also still like to get the 80% furlong payment. Is this possible.

Government says you can work elsewhere: your contract may have a clause saying you either can't work anywhere else, or can't work anywhere else without permission.
It is of course possible that if you ask your current employer if you can work elsewhere, they'll say fine, but decline to pay your 80% - they don't have to furlough you, they can lay you off. How long have you worked there? Is there any conflict of interest between the two employers?Signature removed for peace of mind1 -
I have been with company 1 year. 2 totally different companies. Thanks Sue0

Can I just start the 12 week contract and not inform my current employer cause I do not want to be laid off just to ask a question

You could of course ask a hypothetical question and see what the answer is: "hello, I'd like to take on another job to make up the 20% of my wages, is there any problem with that?"
Have you done the sums for what you'll save in NOT travelling, NOT eating out, NOT having the odd coffee, NOT going shopping in your lunch hour?Signature removed for peace of mind1 -
Nobody knows how long the current situation will last.
Have you considered what you would do if you were required to return to your current job before the end of the 12 week contract?0 -

Also is the new company asking for references from your current employer?0 -
Do not forget that as you have been there less than 2 years, your present employer can just dismiss you without reason. So be careful. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
