Me and my partner have both been designated furloughed but neither of the businesses we work for are continuing to pay our wages, they have said we have to wait until the scheme is up and running and we will be back paid, is this right?, My mum is currently furloughed but is still being paid, other people have told us that we should be still getting paid and our employers claim the money back?

My understanding is that you get paid by the employer & then they claim it back.
but given the website for employers to claim isn't even up at the moment, I can understand why businesses are a little hesitant in paying their employees, even if they could afford to do so0 -
I am furloughed and still being paid as normal on my normal payday .0

And it may be that they just can't afford to pay it right now.gettingtheresometime said:My understanding is that you get paid by the employer & then they claim it back.

So it appears no one really knows then 100% if employer's are supposed to continue to pay you while your are furloughed?
I've been trying to ring HMRC all morning but it seems impossible to get through to anyone.0 -
Yes employers are supposed to continue to pay staff the 80% on the usual payroll date. They will likely have to fund 2 or 3 months of payroll before they receive funds from the government as the target date for the scheme going live is mid April.PacketofCrisps said:So it appears no one really knows then 100% if employer's are supposed to continue to pay you while your are furloughed?
Once the system is setup, the employer will be able to claim for payrolls they have paid out. They are ot going to receive and upfront money as claims will have to be verified against the PAYE databases to confirm employees have been paid before the government will pay out. This is expected to take about 2 weeks from the date of claim.0
