12 years post BR

Hello, 12 years ago today I went to the Royal Courts of Justice to file my bankruptcy.  I used to be a frequent poster here in the Bankruptcy and Living with it forum but I don't come in here often now.  The current situation we are all in with Corona virus reminded me that I was so thankful for the financial crash of 2008 as without that I probably would have lost my home.  I was able to get my house valued very low and therefore my husband could buy the beneficial interest for £500, on top of that my fixed deal mortgage was coming to an end meaning my mortgage was going to go up by about £600 per month.  Thanks to interest rates going down, my monthly payment went down which made my mortgage affordable.  I've now got a brilliant credit rating and have been able to buy a car on credit (need it for work) and I have a couple of credit cards that I pay off every month.  I have to have one for my business expenses.  I just want all of you to know that no matter how desperate you are feeling, there is always light at the end of the tunnel and now I hardly ever think about my bankruptcy.  I am now able to laugh - I remember Barclays was always the first to ring me at 8:30 every morning and at 8:59 pm every evening.  I also remember the satisfaction I had telling them that I was bankrupt!  Anyway you will get through this!  xx

Hello Fiveyearplan, I remember you from those days.  13 years for me, cannot believe how quickly time flies.  I would echo what you have said; these days it has zero effect on my day to day life. I've access to credit cards and loans (largest limit is currently 14k).  I did get myself into trouble again a few years ago, so it seems I didn't learn my lesson the first time.  Three years ago, I was back up to £24.5k debt. I made the decision to pay it off, currently standing at 5k debt total. The focus is to get back to debt free.  😊

I'm confident this time, the lesson has been learned.  It took me nearly going bankrupt twice, but there we are!

I'm glad to hear your journey has been less eventful!

Another 12year anniversary peep here.  I went BR on 29 April 2008.  While much of that time seems a blur now, I will never forget that feeling when I walked out of the court having being declared BR.  The weight off my shoulders was immense and I had such a feeling of relief, don't think I really appreciated how much it had been getting me down until it was all over
