Mortgage Application

  • If you've had trouble with one broker, personally I wouldn't then go to L&C.
L&C, Habito etc. are first stop shop for simple cases IMO. If you've used a broker and been told 3 to 4% then you either need to get to the bottom of why they can't place you at < 2%, or find another local broker (check reviews, facebook etc see if your friends/family can recommend someone.)

Like ACG, I've got nothing against L&C - they'll probably be my broker when I find a house as they're free - but if you've had problems I'd be looking for a local broker with a smaller caseload that you can visit/call to explain and have the time to get to know you and go through things properly and not have any potential mix-ups between the admin/adviser/lender etc.
  • I'm finding L&C more "miss" currently, very poor communication (calls not getting returned, emails ignored, questions left unanswered if I ever do get a reply etc). Depends on the case worker that you get, as I have had one previously that was very good at communicating.

I won't be using them again in future.

I dealt with L&C just last week and found them responsive and once the mortgage application was sent to the lender I had a mortgage offer in less than 24 hours so as you can imagine I am over the moon. If the OP says there is no unusual financial history then why not get a mortgage recommendation from another source? Let us know how you get @Justkate_2

  • Hi, new to this and sorry for jumping in this forum but does anyone know if nationwide do their credit checks before or after valuation? Our valuation was 20/4 we submitted application last weds. DIP was all ok

My credit checks were done before the valuation. On the same day the valuation was done I received a text to say I had my mortgage offer. It took 9 days for me from application to offer. This was back in October though.

Went through L&C in Feb looking to re-mortgage, for me they were more miss than hit too. I went through the online process and had three matches at good rates. Phoned to try to secure one of these offers, gave the same info and then waited over a week to be told they were recommending a different lender on a much worse deal. I've since gone direct and secured a 5 year fix that will be £4.5k less over the fixed period. I wouldn't say don't use them, in hindsight the local advisor used the time before (on a personal recommendation)  was equally good/bad, but be prepared to consider other options.
