How long after the best before date can you keep long life milk and it will still be usable. I have some in my emergency stock and am trying to keep it for the time when I can't get anyone to shop for me or they can't get any milk on the day they shop.

Two or three months after the best before date should be fine, possibly even longer. (I have certainly used milk that old.). The risk is the packaging deteriorating - so long as that looks fine, the contents should be OK and, if they aren’t, you’ll smell it immediately when you open the package. Off milk is off milk, regardless of the source.

Absolutely agree PipneyJane, having said that though I've had UHT milk which has been off before it's use by date.

If you have room you could freeze it to keep it lasting longer. But pour a little bit out first as it expands when frozen and could split the carton/bottle it's in."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"2

I got some from Tesco last week & the date's until January, which is better than the dates in Home Bargains, & Lidl.
There only seems to be the full cream milk now in the cartons, no skimmed or semi skimmed.

Full cream? Yuck!
If anyone is wondering about the funny taste of UHT milk, it is due to the CREAM. UHT skimmed milk doesn’t taste noticeably different to fresh milk.
- Pip (been drinking skimmed milk for so long that I can taste the cream in semi-skimmed if too much is added to my coffee)"Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.' "
