Pay 80% of salary but still employed full time

Hello my employers have recently furloughed all of the staff at my work place and have kept 4 of us on but have told us we will only be paid 80% of the salary. Are they able to do this around 70 office staff and 30 factory staff have been furloughed but have kept 4 of us stating we are key workers

Thank You

If they are claiming your 80% wage from the government no they can't. You can't work for them at all while they claim this

My offspring’s firm have done this but with larger numbers of staff. Some are furloughed on the Govt’s 80%, some have been asked to work full time but to accept a 20% pay cut, in other words work full time for 80% while their colleagues sit at home for the same % pay. Wonderful motivation (not). They only gave 24 hours notice and consultation was a single email.
Reducing pay is a change of contract, if you choose not to accept they can enforce it following consultations by giving you your notice period then offering a contract on the new terms.
My offspring’s company will be short of staff as soon as things pick up.

It seems though that the op is furloughed, with the 3 other people, and also management, but all 4 and management are still working.
Just need the op to clarify.

I read it the other way. The op has not been furloughed but is only being paid 80% of his wage.

I don’t think any company would be stupid enough to take the furlough money and still make them work. It would come back to bite them!

we need the OP to clarify.
