Anyone know how this is being dealt with?

Some solicitors are doing this through office and car windows for safety.

Some are not doing it at all unless it's critically important

I would say it's a "reasonable excuse" if somebody needs to leave their home or otherwise travel in order for deeds to be witnessed.

To witness a deed? I don't think that's permitted. You need to be in their presence (though can be 2 metres away!).

Wasn't to witness a deed, no. I thought the OP was discussing "documents" - was stating that my solicitor facetimed me to verify ID documents I had sent (passport, utility bill etc)
  • This is possible if keeping the 2 meter distance.  I plan on signing and placing the documents down and then my neighbor who watched to then sign while I step back two meters.

Both use your own pens... obviously!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

The Law Society has issued guidance on what is acceptable for wills. If what they say is good enough for that purpose it should be fine for everything else.
