O/S Daily Tuesday 31 March 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light, cloudy but dry underfoot.
DH watching catchup tv, DS1 still in his pit, DS2 settled and happy. I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here.
Dinner last night was smoked sausage and mushroom pasta, menfolk had a breaded chicken portion with their's I just had the pasta. I remembered to get the pork loins out to defrost, I'll serve those with mash, veg, gravy and the LO yorkshires.
Yesterday work was busy in the morning then eased off to steady in the afternoon, This trend will continue.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. What a drab dark start it was here. We are not forecast much sun today but at least no rain! Not that it really matters when confined to barracks!
After my tidying out of the appliance "pantry cupboard" led to emulsioning it yesterday, I won't be making that mistake today! My plan of attack is to be my bedroom and try and move things to clean under/behind them.. Not an easy task for one person but I will do my best. Then the big window to clean. The contents of the wardrobes are still awaiting a good prune but maybe another day!
The end of month finances will be to do later. As I am neither going out and eating out, nor paying for shopping, other than the bare essentials the kids are picking up for me, I should be in for a nice surprise when it comes to how much I have spent this month! The one and only advantage of isolation! And a well stocked freezer!
Still a lot of Sunday's gammon left so, other than having it sliced, I will see what I can transform some of that into!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for us all. But especially our poorlies and recuperating and those at the end of their tether with elderly parents. . Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"15 -
Morning folks. It's dull here too though rain is not forecast. 😀 My only plan for today is to get out for a walk. I have to collect some meds for DM, yesterday the pharmacy was closed for lunch, something new and unexpected, so I'll go earlier.I so wish to be at my own home, I could be pottering in my garden and easing my spirit by watching the tide turn. I really miss that. Anyway...I'm not there so need to focus on here! After all the remedial work in four flats the common close is rather murky. The promised deep clean by a professional company has been postponed by lockdown so the neighbours are planning a close spring clean at the weekend. I won't be much help so have promised to provide some cleaning materials and biscuits. 🤣
I hope that everyone is doing OK at the very least. Take care out there, happy Tuesday to all.16 -
Morning
Up at 5 to unsuccessfully attempt for a slot for mum its my own fault mind as I know the deal now with Asda they are adding them one day at a time two weeks ahead here and I woke up with a start determined today was Weds so it was the day to try but reality hits ages later that its actually only Tuesday. I used to eye roll at mum for never knowing the day....pay back time! Morrisons are a total no no for slots now and quite honestly not prioritising a 90 year old self isolator who has been loyal to them for 20 years irks a little. Anyway strange times we live in I guess.
Kitchen still needs some work today after a feeble attempt yesterday....leg not playing ball with me again but no excuse. Made 2 litres of stock yesterday Ill use some today in a pea, spinach and mushroom risotto thanks to Jamie Olivers new programme which Im really enjoying. Yesterdays episode was funny he looked very stressed and far more like most of us do in the kitchen ...no here's one I prepared earlier
Friend picked my Rx up yesterday and stood at the end of the drive chatting for a bit so strange to not give her a hug and a cuppa. She has 2 teenagers and a hubby at home and is clearly facing a lot of different stresses dealing with all their moods there is some benefit in solo living!
Right best crack on and do something vitally important for the economy and world improvement....bin emptying I think. Have a good day all and keep smiling18 -
Morning All
Walk done, I met the lady with the dog but she was walking by the river so she can clearly make it to the shop! Didn't see many other folk, one benefit of waking up really early I suppose. I've done my online work check in, had to put an alarm on my phone in case I forget.
I started power washing the deck yesterday, it's going to take me forever! Anyway the bit I've done looks better but not sure if I can get any wax to put on it as it's not really 'essential'.
I watched Jamie too Nelski, it was really funny watching him get stressed, now he knows how we all feel!
Well done on the cupboard redecoration TA, you deserve a rest today.
DD called yesterday to collect her bike, her and her partner can take it in turns to have a ride for their exercise. I gave her a bag of bits from my cupboards too as they will go out of date before I use them. She asked if I had any cornflour, I did and gave her the jar it's kept in. Didn't want to put some in a bag in case she was stopped by the police, white powder in a bag may look a little suspicious! It was strange to just talk to her through the window but better safe than sorry.
Right, enough waffling from me, have as good a day as possible, you are all doing so well. Take care. XX16 -
Good morning, it has rained here but it's fine at the moment.I have to think before i know what day it is as well, our lives have lost al their structure, with this blooming lockdown. Not a lot going on here, I went to Tesc* yesterday for their old folks hour, it was very well organised I thought. I had a short list for a couple of friends who live alone, and are not as near everything as I am. That was it really, came home and did the essentials. We' delivered friends' items, but stood at the door. as you say Nels it seemed so strange not to go in and chat for a while.DP1, sorry to hear your little Dgd has a chest infection, she's been through the mill .We're keeping in touch with the family via a couple of whatsapp groups, so that's something I suppose.Take care folks anyway, thinking of you all.16

Hi everyone,
It looks like Crystal has got Covid, Chris is still fine but now having to self-isolate. People say the cough is distinctive and having heard Crystal cough I see what they mean. They're puzzled as to how she has got it because she has been working from home and only went to the shops once. Chris has been going to work in North London though as a key worker so we are wondering if he might be an asymptomatic spreader.
It means that we have lost our access to provisions so we are going to have to be more careful with milk etc. We are also quite low on fresh and frozen veg. Steve has registered on the Govt website to see if we could get a priority sm delivery but so far no joy. Tesco aren't taking new sign ups, Sainsbury's say they can't confirm him as a vulnerable person and Waitrose said they will send an email but who knows when.
Laura said she was researching weaning equipment yesterday! I said what do you need other than a bowl and a cup and possibly a blender all of which they've got. There is also a high chair there. I think it's a case of retail therapy. She said they had been contacted by their cleaner asking if they needed anything doing, I think she is feeling the pinch, poor woman. Anyway, Laura was quite pleased because she was worried about her many houseplants so she asked her to go in once a week to water them and she will pay her the normal fee.13 -
Good morning all,
The HT and I have been out for our morning walk. We saw one lady with a labrador puppy so stopped and had a labrador chat from opposite sides of the road. I did the ironing yesterday so that's a job crossed off the list. I also made a crochet rainbow for the front window. Today I'm going to try and make a sun to go with it.
I'm also contemplating tidying my baking cupboard after TA's good example. It would be nice to be able to see what's in there but I'm also slightly worried that if it's tidy I may not fit everything back in. That might not be a bad thing actually - I could leave what needs using up out on the side to use first.
dp1 I hope your dgd is alright.
Take care all of you15 -
Morning everyone
I too have no idea what day it is when I wake up...I was convinced today was Wednesday until my phone told me otherwise.
Thanks for all your good wishes regarding little grand daughter - it helps to 'tell' you all. The corona virus test will take 24 hours so that's not till tonight, so I'm assuming nothing will be done regarding the problem with her blood test until then. At the minute they're in an isolation room on the children's A and E. it will be a long day of waiting for DD.
Yesterday I did lots of shredding of old paperwork - why did I have bank statements from 2013? - unfortunately by hand so it took ages. I wished I had the shredder we use at work! So this morning's job is to carry on with that - I have one more box to do. I'm trying to get some jobs done in the mornings, then I can by lazy with a book in the afternoons if I want. It's hard trying to have a routine when you don't need to isn't it? I'm used to getting up and going to work!
Hope everyone has a good day

Morning all! Yesterday I gave bread another go, not so pancake like this time, but I don't have a proper loaf tin so the round cake tin has to do. Awaiting that for breakfast..... Had a video chat with a couple of friends last night, had a good laugh with them, I'm glad one of them is up with technnology, I didn't have a clue how to invite people to a video chat, but did manage to find some filters, which is not funny really, except when you've had one glass of wine and are roaring drunk because you haven't drunk anything in so long...and haven't had supper....oops...It rained last night so I'm going to see if my makeshift guttering did the job or whether it needs tweaking. And I dug a bit more garden. More of the same today. OH will be doing the dishes and I expect he'll be wishing he did them yesterday because there are loads more of them now....evil grinning smiley alert...Found some online retailers, local to me yesterday so ordered some meat to try. I had to go to a particular SM yesterday because I needed something that the german ones don't sell, but if the meat is good from this butcher, then it really is only fresh veg and fruit that we'll need and one place is so close the OH [or I] can walk there, also good news because the car didn't sound very happy when I started it yesterday, it needs a run to charge the battery but of course, we can't go anywhere....Also found somewhere that still has international kidney potatoes, so ordered some of those. I think quite a bit of the garden is going to get dug this year....which is good, because I hate grass.camelot, you can order wax online and get it delivered, not sure of prices though...TA, hope your day is less painty than yesterday! well done though! Nelski, haven't seen the jamie programme, will look it up today. Hope your leg will play ball [literally?] today, don't forget you metamorphic rock! snoozer, hope you stay safe! This is a link to local mutual aid groups, there might be one near you https://covidmutualaid.org/local-groups/ Most of them are on facebook or whatsapp. Don't forget about local shops delvering or farm shops locally too. There's more out there than you think
dp1, such a worry, have a hug! Cranky, do it! do it! But if it doesn't go back in, you have to bake using that piece of equipment...like a dare
Gers, you get a hug too [ and I'm not normally a huggy person] just because...Hey all reading along, hope you are doing ok both mentally and physically....Trundle along Tuesday!

Morning all, I believe that it's Tuesdayish today. All the days are -ish at the moment.
TA, your plans for your bedroom made me look at carefully at mine. I found it necessary to avert my gaze fairly promptly. I know that this is The Ideal Time to get all those niggling jobs done. Drat it! Let us know how you get on.
Gers, I know just what you mean about watching the tide turn, but it will still be there when you get back there.
Sorry Crystal has succumbed to the dreaded virus, snoozer. Let's hope that she has the mild version and that no one else in the family gets it.
Cranky, be warned! I tried a bit of sorting out in kitchen cupboards yesterday and trying to get the things back in that I had taken out was like trying to get toothpaste back into the tube.
I know not what today will bring. When I find out I will tell you.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
90% of being married is shouting, "What?" from various rooms.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13
