Prom cancelled

Hi
My daughter has had her leavers prom cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. I have paid for her prom dress in full from a specialist bridal/prom dress shop. I rang the shop to tell them that her prom had been cancelled and to ask where that leaves us in terms of the dress and getting any money back. The lady on the phone said that we would not get any money back as all dresses are ordered in to store.
Please could anybody give me any advice on this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

At my sons school they made a point of telling the year 11s to # keep their outfit.
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0 -
Hi Hayley,
Did you get an answer on this? We have put down a £50 deposit and paid an additional £100 on a dress with £125 outstanding to pay and when we asked for a refund she said no, as the dress was ordered in. My thoughts were that we wanted the dress for prom on 23rd July, which has been cancelled, potentially to be rebooked at some point. But for my money the dress is not fit for purpose anymore as the shop were aware it was for prom on that date and now it’s no longer happening, another date may not be convenient for example and after all isn’t that what the non refundable deposit she charged supposed to cover. If we had to lose the deposit of £50 then I’d understand, but I don’t think it’s then fair to demand that we pay the balance or lose the £100 that we’ve already paid.0 -
The dress is still fit for purpose, unless you have concern over its quality.
The amount you need to pay to cancel the order will be in the terms, so start by checking there.
