Buying this years stocking/sack in the sale?!!

Ok, I have 2 small children who will be visited by Santa (as long as they continue the good behaviour
) for the first time, but....
They don't have an item for him to fill up!!
Now by own sheer stupidity in taking MSE to the complete extreme, I bought them a £1.99 felt job from Willkinsons the other day which I thought was perfect.
Got them home, Santa put the stuff in (ya know, just to check how it looked....:rotfl: ) and then lifted it up and  you can just tell it aint going to be up to the job!!!! Started to tear slightly (cheap felt)
So, now I'm stuck on the search again. I don't really have a budget for them, but did think of buying a top quality one in the sale really close to xmas, like 23rd/24th Dec kind of close. Do the department stores reduce these kind of things around this time and will I be able to get 2 nice hard wearing ones for a cheap price?
Thanks!

i doubt that they are likely to o down in price until after christmas.
maybe look at stores that offer 3 for 2, and then you could get 2 nice, good quality stockings/santa sacks and a little something extra besides.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Hi Mumolu,
Primark have some really lovely stockings dead cheap. Think they were £2.50 or there were some Disney ones which were slightly dearer.

I have always just used an old pair of tights cut up ( well two pairs as I have 4) they love waking in the night and seeing all the bumps in the stocking but having to wait until moring to see what they are. its all I had as a child sodidn;t even consider bying a stocking for any of them . Its actually amazing what you can fit int a tight leg , one year DS had a full sized football in his !!I am journeying to a debt-free life.
Our estimated debt-free date is January 2040. I'm on a mission to bring that date closer!

Hope you took them back? Woolies have some cheaper ones that look ok, my friend bought one for her little girl and it looked fine, I think it was about £3. Could you make them?0

why not use a couple of old pillow cases, the children could decorate them glitter, or sew names on etc. It would be good fun and personal. If you wanted you could them get some really nice stockings in the ne year
We always had pillow cases as a child but never decorated them.

We did the same - just put pillow cases over the banister. You could get some cheap ones from Tesco or somewhere for them to decorate, could even buy red ones if you wanted them to be specifically only for Christmas. Proud DFW Nerd 135 :cool:Sealed Pot Challenge - 0190 -
Could you strengthen the ones you have already, maybe by stitching some fabric round the top on the inside or lining them somehow? Either that or don't hang them (my parents just used to leave them at the foot of the bed) or support them underneath.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

I'd forgotten we had pillowcases as children. Made me feel all sentimental for past Christmases. When we were kids my sister and I would wake to a pillowcase stuffed with presents.
As we got older the pillowcases would be left downstairs as we were too excited to sleep.
We also always had new nightdresses on Christmas Eve. I still do that now.Money SPENDING Expert0 -

Lovely! We used to sit for ages at bed time on Christmas Eve stretching our stockings in case Santa could put more inside if they were longer! We had a pair of my mums "american tan" tights cut into two. It would be interesting to see what some of our older mse's had for Santa to fill up. What about during the war?0 -
We used to have a pillowcase too. Til I got older and tried leaving a duvet cover in the hope Santa would fill that......

I hope to find a nice fabric santa sack for dd (1) reduced in January, or talk MIL into making her one.0
