Hi all,
We has been applying to remortgage with NatWest, at offer stage, they came back saying the senior underwriter had decided to look at the application and it has now been declined due due to adverse, we have a missed a British Gas payment from a while back.. is this unusual?? Or are the banks just finding any excuse not to lend?

It's not uncommon for poor credit incidents to impact lending. Especially when lending has tightened so much.0

1 missed payment from more than 2 or 3 years ago would be unusual for NatWest to decline, in my opinion. Just goes to show lenders really are tightening up.0

There will be more to it than that.
I had a case reviewed by an underwriter last week with Natwest where the applicant had more adverse than you mention and at 95% LTV.
Have you looked at your credit reports?
Are you a high LTV?
Are you pushing the affordability limits?
Do you have a lot of debt?
It could be any number of things or a combination, but it wont have been declined solely because of a one off late payment.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. How much do you owe on credit cards, loans etc. This would impact the decision in the current environment.0
