Fix End

I signed up to a 2 year fix with Halifax that ends in a few days. So naturally started looking at my options recently. When I called to discuss I was told my fix doesn't end until November.
He agreed I signed up for a 2 year fix in April 2018, but said something about how they managed mortgages in bulk. That the way they done things at their end meant my mortgage fix now finishes on Nov 2020.
My first question is, is this common, has anyone heard of it happening before?
Second question is, would you personally wait till November anyway and hope that fixes will get cheaper or would you challenge this if possible and fight for a new fix next month knowing that the rates are much lower than normal?
Im really tempted for a 10 year fix as I'm not planning to go anywhere and the rate seems to be cheaper than my current 2 year fix.

Fixed rates run two ways. They either end after a set period of months i.e. 2 year fixed = 24 months. Or, most commonly, they end on a date. When they end on a date they are usually for slightly more than 2 years, but are still classified as two year fixed rates.
The end date would have displayed clearly in your Mortgage Illustration and Mortgage Offer.
Secondly, definitely don't wait until November before you start the Remortgage process. You should give yourself at least 2 months to complete a Remortgage.
Fixed rates, aren't going to get lower. Fixed rates are pretty much as low as they can get. The only reason you would wait currently is due to the mortgage markets going through a lot of changes due to the current climate.2
