I need a car, with some urgency.  I have been looking at PCP leasing:  I have the funds for the initial payment & I have the funds for the monthly payments, but I cannot get a loan due to an historic default (going back at least 4 years) I'm guessing, where payments stopped on my part and were not pursued by the lender.  Can anyone advise how I might buy a car with the money I have.  You're advice is appreciated.

Err, go to a garage and buy one for cash ?

Easy to say, not so easy to do at present, some dealers will deliver for you, if they are open, lots are not.

Private sales more easily sourced, but that brings with it a level of risk, depends how desperate you are.

Thanks Sourcrates, appreciated - not enough cash to buy outright, sadly,

HP will be secured on the car but as others have posted most garages round here are closed for sales just open for breakdown emergencies.

I don't have any transport, that's the urgency... and it's 21 miles to the nearest station

No, how much money do you have. Money, in your hand. Actual cash amount. Not pretend do-not-have money.

Have you just moved?  Why is this a new, urgent situation?
