I was unable to pay last months Barclaycard due to a lull in work and they were on the phone tonight demanding payment.

I said I didn't have it and then they said that I should go on a pay plan of £80 per month. I offered £50 but that wasn't enough and advised that I call credit counselling.

I did post about claiming PPI as they kept charging me even though I had reached retirement age but no one replied for quite a while and now because I'm panicking I can't find the post.

I don't know what to do next.

  • Hi Nancy,

You can contact any of the organisations in my signature for debt advice, which they'll give free of charge.

As for your other post, you placed it in the loans section here. As it was done about a week ago, I've bumped it for you so that others can take a look at it for you. If you want people on this board to look at it, perhaps you could re-post it here for them. :)

    Thankyou Wherediditallgo.

I've done as you suggested and moved it to here in hope that someone can advise me.

I've been here before about this but was told by Barclaycard that I have no claim. It has nagged at me....so I'm back!

I cleared my card in May 2004 and on this I was paying PPI and for some reason Accident Insurance. Also in May I was 65. Now I'm almost sure that 65 was the limit then but I would need to check.

I received a phone call from them when I started the card up again in August...Barclay said they do not keep the recordings) asking if I wanted to continue the insurance due to my age. As I had retired and that wasn't covered....I couldn't see the point so said ...no.

Now I have no Insurance Policy, so I must have destroyed it. I wouldn't have done so if the policy was still ongoing.

Barclaycard claim that as I didn't cancel the policy I am not entitled to a refund...but I did...over the phone.

Should they when I reached 65 in theory have contacted me....they did but there's no proof?

Where do I go from here? What makes me continue with this is that they were rather quick to cancel my insurance when I first began my enquiries, which raised my suspicions that something wasn't quite right.

    Nancy,

It doesn't sound right to me either that they can charge you for an insurance product that couldn't possibly be of any use to you anymore.

Someone who knows what you should do will be along soon, I hope.

    Hi Nancy,

Let's see if bumping this up to the top on a Monday will get a reply.

If not, I think that you need to write a nice letter (write, don't phone) Explaining that, you wish to cancel the PPI and why. Also make it clear that you did ask them to cancel when they called you in August (they should have a record that the call to you was made) and that you would like your payments refunded back to your 65'th birthday. Again, ask for all correspondence from then to be in writing, that way you have a clear record of what has happened.

Let's hope someone else can come up with some other ideas.

Many many thanks for your reply.

When I queried the PPI a while ago they instantly offered to cancel it!

That's what made me wonder what was going on when I have read on here the problems people have had in cancelling.

They claim they would not have kept a recording from three years ago re my cancelling the PPI due to my age but I thought Data Protection gave you that right?

They have already stated that I am owed nothing because I did not tell them to cancel when I was 65.

What I need to know is...............should they have officially contacted me when I retired? Or was I obliged to contact them?

I think it all hinges on that. If it was their responsibilty then I've got them.

After reading the story on here about the Mother or Two...........she was an inspiration..............I'll fight them tooth and nail.

They may not have a record of the call from 3 years ago, but they should have a record of the fact that they called you on their records.

If I understand this correctly, the policy has now been canceled and you are no longer making payments, is that correct?

In that case, I would calculate what you think you have been over charged since your 65th birthday and put together a claim based on that. Unless of course someone else comes up with a better idea soon.

What have you got to lose other than a first class stamp + possible recorded delivery of 70p
