Fixed Mortage deal is away to end- worth switching to Variable for 2 years?

Hello Everyone,

My Mortage is currently @ 1.54% with Santander , I have £248,000 left to pay from a £315,000 house sale.

I have never in my life went to a tracker mortage but with the very low rates at the moment I am tempted, however it would seem that this would involve moving to HSBC.  Does anyone think that this is a wise move? Just worried incase the base rate increases and I would be switching lenders which I have never done during a mortgage period. Am I right in thinking they would need to perform a valuation?

Many thanks
