Cutting own hair

Options
So hair was getting shaggy and in need of its monthly cut. Then all the barbers closed.
I usually get a £10 cut at the local, a number 3 back and sides and a trim on the top. I've got some clippers somewhere but never used them. How feasible is it to have a go myself? I'm 50 so not interested in anything fashion, just a good short cut that won't look too much of a mess. If I did a no.3 or 4 all over does that have disaster written all over it or might it be ok?

If you're not sure, I advise YouTube - you can find anything on there! (My hair is calf length so I have absolutely no knowledge of buzz cuts )

No 4 all over is easy enough to do yourself, I've been doing it for years and only had a few slip ups ;-)

Anyone got any advice for buying men's clippers? Wahl seem to be a decent brand, but not really sure what to go for.

Thanks I'll probably give this a go. If it's a mess the chances are it will have grown out before I'm out in public anyway  :)

Just take it all off,  you'll save on shampoo .... Plus it'll grow back if you're self isolating.

You're in a fortunate position - being a man (presumably....).

Women with long hair are in a fortunate position as well.

Me - I'm one of the many women with short fine hair and am definitely feeling concerned how I'm to manage - and there's no way I'm going to even try and take the scissors to it myself - as I know I'd soon make a right pigs ear of it.

Just thinking "Thank goodness I bought a selection of headwear over the last couple of years - and I'll have to wear that if need be for the time being to hide my hair". Downside of living rurally and I will probably get "Looks!" - because very very few women wear headscarves here....well they'll just have to give me a "searching Look".

Good job I actually like the look of head coverings...as long as it is by free choice of the woman (though I doubt anyone also out for food shopping or their "one exercise a day" is going to be as concerned about the way I look as I am..).

I don’t really care how long my hair gets, as after all it was waist length until I was 28, although I’m hoping not to repeat that look. However, I’ve been looking at YouTube videos on how to cut your fringe yourself which I feel (fairly) confident to tackle. Nobody much is going to see me if I mess it up!

If anyone is going to cut their own hair with scissors, make sure they're a very sharp pair of scissors that are *only* used for hair - anything else and you'll have split ends very soon afterwards because the hair needs to be sliced as cleanly as possible. Those YouTube videos showing people sawing through their hair with kitchen scissors make me cringe so much it hurts. [Sadly I learned that lesson the hard way!]

Maybe you can get one self-cut hair clippers for yourself, this one is good, and it is easy to use, and its price is low, and free shipping, maybe you can get it and try. The Etereauty hair clipper is a good choice for you.

Same here.  Plus as my hair is wavy, it doesn't grow down, it grows out - I'm likely to end up looking like a wild woman!
