It really doesn't work like that, so that shouldn't happen. :)

    babynada,

It's extremely unlikely that it will but you need to do something about it tomorow. Most of us will be on line tomorrow, so any help you need just post again.

Wages are normally arrested when they have exhausted attempts to get you to pay something and quite often it is a way of attracting your attention to make you get in touch.

Contact one of the agencies given above for advice and then contact the people who have made the arrestment. If it is the council is it perhaps the Sheriff Officers office who deals with all the Council Tax Debt? They are pretty gruesome but if you make a genuine offer and stick to it they will work with you to repay it.

They don't take all your money.
  • If you wish to dispute the amount of the debt you would have to take it up with the council as the Sheriff Officer are collecting on what the council have advised them to collect. Write to the council and ask how much they are charging for your council tax and how much they believe you have paid. If they have made a mistake and you have already requested the 25% then write and complain that you have had to pay this back and request a refund.

Get the Sheriff Officer a copy of your payslip quickly and request they remove the arrestment as you are paying as agreed and have already sent a copy. If they remove the arrestment then you can always explain that it was a mistake. Once you get so far with them if you do not do exactly what they want they will arrest wages or bank accounts as they assume you haven't done it.

Sheriff Officers don't report on your credit rating.
