Working From Home

Options
Hi all,
I have recently started working from home due to this coronavirus situation, which is very worrying. My parents are retired and seem to do nothing all day and bang around the house. I work from my bedroom and have a nice office chair and office desk. I am near a bathroom so can hear the toilet flushing regular. Whatever i do such as setting a schedule, having regular breaks, going out for a short walk and even using earplugs i cannot stay focused. I end up lazying around and feeling negative. Does anyone else have this problem and is there anything else i can consider? Thank you for any input.

What an extraordinary post, your retired parents have a right to bang around all day it’s their house! What sort of age are you, perhaps you could look into getting your own place where you can set the rules as you want them.

Being distracted by a toilet flushing rather sounds li,e anything at all would disrupt you, if it wasn’t the toilet perhaps it would be the birds in the garden or the traffic noise outside. You just need to concentrate your mind and remember that you are at work and if you don’t work then you won’t get paid.

Are you not living with your own family anymore , and what happened to the affiliate marketing which was your self employment?

I note in a previous post of yours that you were posting of lack of motivation prior to home working I think you need other work or reward for stimulation.  Set a timer for 15 minutes.  During that time you put head down and work, when timer goes off you can do something else for five mins then back to 15 mins work.  Knowing you only have to work for 15 mins maybe better than thinking I'm here all day.

Try breaking down your work into tasks, make a list and then work through the list, focusing on it and ticking things off.

Also try meditation. It should improve your concentration.

I think a lot of people are facing the same situation(s). Working from home, where possible, sounds like a "great idea" but the realities can be more difficult. They can also take more time to adjust to.

There are lots of hints and tips on-line that might help. Personally I've been sticking to the same work hours, the same break times, and trying to stick to a routine, as well as using Todo lists, so I know what I'm currently working on, and what I'll be working on next.

I am also working from home.  Other than the cow next door who keeps hammering her doors shut all day and banging cupboard doors etc, I am loving it.  I've flown through work without colleague distractions.

Breaking your work down into manageable tasks that take around 5 minutes to do always increases my productivity and focus greatly. It means you are just focussing on what needs doing NEXT as opposed to the task as a whole. Before you know it you'll be half way through!
