House Sale in danger?

Hi. Thoughts on COVID-19 impacting house sale completion? We are due to complete sale of our house end of april. Worried that mortgages will be withdrawn or solictors wont be in work to do their job. Even worried that lockdown will prevent removals. Thoughts?

Have you exchanged yet? How many parties in the chain?

No chain. In scotland missives are not signed early. We are moving into rental and the buyer is a 1st time buyer.

Umpteen similar threads already here and on the house buying board, you might to read through them. Generally though, mortgage offers aren't going to be withdrawn without a good reason, solicitors can largely work from home (many of us already are), and I doubt that even the next stage of restrictions would prohibit house moves from taking place.

Then again, there aren't any precedents and nobody really knows. We could end up with something similar to the latest position in Italy which seems to be shutting down all non-essential industry - that would probably mean no house moves.

But if all you're doing is selling, how much does it matter if things end up having to be postponed? You just stay in your house and eventually (maybe) everybody will be able to go ahead as planned.
