After a mental breakdown and been unwell for 3 years I have 7 debts all have defaults registered against them (around £70k in total) all have been sold on to debt collectors (some several times).  I have been offered partial settlment offers of between 25-50%.  I'm working again and could at a push pay all the debts in full within 3 years, would that make any difference to my credit file or doesn't it matter now I have Defaults registered (I have no CCJ's), should I negotiate a partial settlment on all my accounts and just get on with my life knowing my credit file will be bad for the next 6 years.  I rent and have no pension I'm 47 years old and I need to plan for the future - need to get on the housing ladder (may never happen now) and build a pension pot.

Take the settlement if you can afford it. The damage is done to credit file
