I noticed my fuel recently was being used up at a fast rate of knots couldnt understand it until I opened the boot and found that the old fart had left his two really heavy tool boxes in there plus a large bag of logs!!
didnt the fact that only the two rear wheels where touching the ground, giev away that some heavy was in the boot? ;D ::)smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....:cool:

56mph is not the "most economical speed for most cars" - it is simply one of the two speeds (75mph being the other one) which used to be used years ago by manufacturers when they published their fuel consumption figures (long since replaced by much more realistic urban, extra urban and combined figures, as the 56 & 75mph figures were totally useless).
In order to find the most economical speed for your car, you need to look at the torque curve - the most economical speed is whatever the speed when you're driving in top gear with the engine rpm at the lowest speed possible where it achieved 75% of it's maximum torque.
In diesels, this is around 2000rpm, in petrol it's around 3000rpm.
At 56mph, you are more than likely driving slower than the cars most economical speed.0 -
