Dodgy debt ads on Facebook

If anybody on here uses Facebook then you've probably noticed that ads from commercial IVA and other more unscrupulous firms have started appearing all the more regularly on Facebook, even encroaching onto people's personal newsfeeds. It's like daytime tv on there now!

What do people think of this? I think it demonstrates once again how much cash these guys hope to make off people who are struggling if they have so much money to spend pushing their product like this!

We're trying to raise awareness of debt on Facebook so if you're on and want to help people struggling with money in that way then check out the 'Debt can seriously cramp your style' group and get involved. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7480205983

  • I think that's a very noble cause, especially considering Facebook's demographic user base, as they're ostensibly targeting naive individuals in their late teens and early-mid 20s, drawing them into a lifetime of debt.

I can't imagine Facebook being too supportive, though, as I imagine it's a lucrative revenue stream for them.

I suggest you recommend that your group access the web, and Facebook, with Firefox and install the Adblock Plus add-on. In fact, I can recommend it for anyone who wants to enjoy an advert-free web browsing experience. :)
