Job Offer

I am already in employment and have been offered a job for a competitor doing the same role, this is a great role with no drawbacks. Am I mad for considering this in the current times? I feel an obligation to my existing clients to support them and feel slightly selfish for considering this, but in normal times I would have accepted instantly. Thank you.

Lots of people will say yes, however only you will know if the new job is right for you.
I'm in the same boat and I've decided to go for it as it's not easy finding another chance like that. For me I did lots of research on new company and have confidence in them. I also have shorter notice period (1 month).
I do understand things can go wrong and have prepared myself for that the best I could.
One thing I would definitely insist though is to have a signed contract before handing in your notice. If something does go wrong you have the option of suing for breach of contract.0 -
Up up you. I know someone who turned down a job interview for this morning and didn’t hear anything back from the interviewer... their current employer is keeping them at work even even if it’s to tidy up whilst knowing if they did get a new job they would really be at any old mercy more then ever. I’ve been one for walking away and jumping instantly but even I feel time is probably best spent learning to become more assertive now. A new job is only ever a temporary fix. It last less then ever starting the new job. Plus there is the bun fight as some want to be in work and some don’t so a lot of tension in workplace.0

the new job is certainly right for me, I am just concerned with the timing.jonathanc8888 said:Lots of people will say yes, however only you will know if the new job is right for you.

they can terminate your contract without any question if you have less than 2 years employment...jonathanc8888 said:Lots of people will say yes, however only you will know if the new job is right for you.

From your OP is your only concern being selfish? I was feeling really guilty too as it feels like I'm jumping ship however in the end of the day we need to think about ourselves and the future of our family. For me this is the main driver that pushed me to do it, no matter how hard it is.simmo85 said:

Of course the coronavirus is an unprecedented event so there are definitely more risks in going for a new job.0 -
I have been with my current employer for 12 years and have been looking for a new role both internal and external for around 16 months, this one is perfect. selfishness is part of it but mostly I dont want to burn bridges where I am. I suppose I am also concerned about what will happen during the next 4 weeks whilst working my notice period. I dont know about employment law but can they take the job offer away, I have verbally accepted and have the contract in hand, although it does not state a start dateanxious_ant said:

So at the most that would be salary for the notice period, wouldn't it?jonathanc8888 said:Lots of people will say yes, however only you will know if the new job is right for you.

Don't move - there's just so much risk involved. It's going to get a lot worse in terms of the recession.

Well I can appreciate everyone's on edge here and that's perfectly understandable, after all that's only human.
However sometimes we can't let our emotions cloud our better judgement.
If you think your current job is secure and not worth the risk then don't move. However, same question applies, how secure IS your current job? How long is a piece of string?
For me I've literally got the job offer last week and I have a 4 week notice period. The new employers are aware of the situation and have reassured that there are no issues. Only thing is that I might have to start my first day remotely.
Yes, there is a probation period and the whole 2 year protection thing to consider. After 2 years continuous service you get redundancy but it's not that much for 2 years, 2 weeks pay I believe?
No one can predict the future and in terms of career move you will be the best person to decide what's best for yourself.1
