Resource for checking medication compatibilities?

Does anyone know if there is some website or app where you can enter or select a list of drugs, and it will alert you to any conflicts?

The NICE site (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence)

  • Thanks mac.d, that's a useful link to bookmark.
I was hoping for one where you can input a list of meds to save time.  I've found an app in the google play store that claims to do this; will see if there's one in the App Store now . .

Drugs.com used to offer this ability, but it's an american site
  • Ask your pharmacist they are trained to provide this information. It's not something you should rely on an app or a website for.

Except for the NICE site I linked to because that's the main website for Health & Care guidelines in the UK. I would only use an app from the UK that used the information from NICE, and wouldn't rely on a US website.

That was my first thought, but always read the patient information leaflet too - my aunt was put on a medication which was contraindicated in the leaflet because of some other medication she was on, so phoned her Dr to check. Both the Dr and pharmacist had overlooked the interaction and so the Dr prescribed her something different.

Usually if something's contraindicated, the Dr will have weighed the benefits and risks before prescribing, but mistakes still happen. Always best to check if you're not sure, but better with a human who knows your situation and medical history rather than a standalone database.
