Santander Declined Mortgage

Just got a call from my mortgage broker to say that Santander have declined my mortgage. Reason being to a default from 4years ago of £175 that has a notice of correction on my credit report as this transaction was fraudulent.
My basic income is £50k a year, with 10% bonus and an additional £3k from other sources. I was asking for a mortgage of £97,000 with a 10% deposit. I am so angry.
I have a perfect record apart from this one transaction. I have zero balance on my credit card and Next store, so clearly shows I'm good at managing my money.
Has anyone else been declined for the more stupidest of reasons?

How do you know that was the reason?0

Santander arent the best when it comes to adverse credit. If your broker knew about this originally they have picked the wrong company. It should be easy to find an alternative though.0

My mortgage broker told me. He has been on the phone with Santander all morning.0 -

Hardly classify as adverse credit when its a disputed fraudulent transaction from 4 years ago. And I could be justified if it was a lot of money but its £175. Which given my income is pittance. Not to mention that everything else on my credit file is in tact.0 -
No matter how minor a default is classed as adverse credit. The notice of correction does little to help. If it was fraudulent can you contact the provider and ask them to remove it?0

I have already asked. I have been asking for this for 4 years- hence the frustration0 -
there will definitely be an alternative for you that should be easy to arrange, your broker should be able to sort this.0

Did it not come up in the original face find? A notice of correction does nothing to help in these cases as otherwise everyone would stick one on their reports when they got defaults. If its exists at point of application then it is assessed as being part of your credit profile. Santander are very anti adverse so if it was declared originally then its a strange lender to go to.
If it wasn't declared then there is a chance they are also declining as they don't like finding stuff in the background that they should have been told about through the application. They class it as non-disclosure and is like one of the deadly sins of a mortgage application (intentional or not)0
