Covid-19 Holiday Bargains

Slightly opportunistic perhaps, but I am wondering about the expected slashing of costs of holidays this year. Media report Virgin planes flying virtually empty and some reports of destinations like Kos in Greece being up to 33% cheaper than last year, but when you do compare prices, they aren't really that cheap.
I am slightly perplexed as to why the jaw-dropping deals haven't been flooding the market yet? Any ideas?

Probably because there was already lots of competition, margins were already slim and there's no point in selling holidays at even less margin to opportunists.
A lot of travel companies are busy working out how to stay in business.0 -
Return flights London to New York for £280 covering NY.
Also saw last minute holiday for 5 SC in Calpe for 2 weeks £784 just need work and the school to close.
I don't imagine there will be much movement on Summer prices as the travel companies will be hoping that normal service will have resumed by then.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023
Make £2024 in 2024...0 -
There's probably also a lot of uncertainty about whether they'll be allowed to fly there anyway, and whether like in some countries you might have to isolate for 14 days after arrival which would make a 2 week holiday pointless, so they probably don't want the hassle of selling loads of cheap deals and then having to deal with the consequences if things change for the worse...
