I'm really starting to worry about this now. With the amount of debt this country is about to go into and money being dropped all over is hyperinflation becoming more realistic? I'm tempted to give the money back

Can you give the money back without it triggering an early repayment charge? Having it sat in a bank account isn't ideal at any time, but losing a large chunk of it repaying the mortgage early is also not ideal.
Do you want the extension still?
I'm not sure I'd be making plans as far ahead as September personally.
  • I'd be tempted to put it in premium bonds, can split it between two people if possible you might not win anything but if you do it'll be better than anything you'd get from the banks at the moment

Things are going crazy in Costco every time there is a story of new stock coming in

bit there is very little new stock coming into the country
Horse sh*t,. Just came home from Costco, managed to get toilet roll, eggs and cooking oil amongst other things. I have also managed to get meat and yoghurt from Tesco. The panic was big a few days ago, but things are settling.

I think hyperinflation is inevitable because of the chancellor's 80% statement yesterday,

Calm down - it appears to depend where in the country you are - some stores have a full choice - some have bare shelves !
Sainsburys / Tesco / Morrisons around me have empty shelves - Co op not so bad

We can give back 10% a year without penalty.
Still very much want the kitchen extension and if I stay in work then the debt is serviceable.
It's the inflation over the next 6 months and keeping my job that worries me. Guess all I can do is sit and wait it out.
