I was being slightly tongue in cheek about the p1ss taking....

And being able to draw a pension from the age of 40 (which I haven't yet, still working) was one of the main reasons I chose my career...at the age of 16 (though the first two years till 18 don't count)!
Really?  There are a lot of reasons for joining the Armed Forces, but I have to say that the pension from 40 is rarely one of them.  Especially as when you enlisted there was no guarantee that you would advance to engagement terms of 22 years +.  When I joined the WRAF in the 1970s the pension scheme certainly didn't figure into my plans - until I gained promotion and extended my contract to 22 years.  Then it became important!

Yeah really, the pension was the main reason for me.  Getting promotion and signed on to 22 to secure the pension was the main goal.  The fact that I also needed employment was secondary.  It was a job that had a pension that was relatively  easy to secure.  Everything else was lower down the list.  Not interested in the queen and country guff, I wanted the pension, wage, and qualifications.
