Re : possible school closures.....they say children are the lowest at risk from covid-19..but possibly the highest spreaders of the virus....so if schools close, children are obviously going to be out (they just wont stay indoors) and about..playparks, shopping centres etc where they have a higher chance of spreading it...can someone shed some light on this please..

I think that sounds plausible, I did hear on Channel Four News last week that kids are less prone to catching the virus so maybe are just as likely to be just carriers, like anyone else testing positive with no symptoms - I've not looked for links or documentation to support this though

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

I've been on briefing after briefing on this for the last few days. Advice to employers is where possible be flexible with homeworking/leave so that parents can cope with school closures. Obviously not everyone can work from home, but working patterns can be altered for example.
If kids are off school they should be 'social distancing' and parents need to stop them congregating in large groups. Plugging them into the internet might have the desired effect ;)
If there is the slightest chance that the kids are an infection risk, then grandparents shouldn't be asked to look after them.
The last session I was on basically said we have a duty (as do employers) to minimise the amount of face to face interaction, as not to do so is selfish and possibly negligent. It's been suggested that for those people who do have to be in the workplace that they're given more space so that they don't have to be close to other people. You'll all have to make your own decisions, but I'm going to indulge my unsociable side for a while.

Interesting read of the current facts about Coronavirus and Covid-19. It mentions when taking protective gloves off, you should disinfect them before taking them off, remove them, then disinfect your hands again. That's for medical people when taking off their gowns etc but it applies to us, too, if using gloves.

I steam my coat with a handheld steamer when I come in (I’ve only been to hospital doctors dental for the last five weeks) but have been immune compromised for several years. I also spray my outdoor clothes with dettol aerosol - the one that kills germs and viruses on bathroom hard ssurfaces.

I’ve been using first defence spray every day because apparently this can make it harder for the virus to break through the mucus barrier in the nose and be carried to the lungs.

Thanks for the thread, unrecordings. Honestly I am hazy on what the survival time is for coronavirus on a surface. Might depend on the nature of the surface, temperature etc? With respect to how to deal with shopping, or mail, this is my strategy so far (and would welcome tweaks to it).
For post, I pick it up with bare hands (skin is after all protective) and open the letter, then tip out the contents if possible without touching them. The letter envelope then goes directly into the recycling bin. If it's a package, I will open it and dump out the contents, then again place the cardboard into recycling. After that I will thoroughly wash my hands.
For supermarket stuff (I have home deliveries) I figure it's pointless trying to disinfect all the packaging. So I place the items in the fridge as normal and thoroughly wash my hands, having stowed the bags for return at the next delivery. Then when I need an item from the fridge, take it out, discard packaging if not unwrapped and then wash hands thoroughly before prepping meal. In summary, no I don't wash the packaging (some has holes in it for air circulation anyway).
Edit: Oh and I should add I then wipe down the surface everything's been on with disinfectant.
Here'what happened yesterday on what was supposed to be our first day of self isolation. Everything is considered either clean or dirty. External door handles are considered perpetually dirty. We only touch clean where possible. As part of our prep I popped an old gorilla tub in the porch for the inevitable bobbins that somehow comes through the letterbox. For the time being per this link I posted earlier https://www.businessinsider.com/how-long-can-coronavirus-live-on-surfaces-how-to-disinfect-2020-3?r=US&IR=T we assume the interior of the box & its contents are clean but the exterior is dirty. The box is opened & flaps opened fully exposing the contents. Contents (clean because they'll have been sat in the shipping carton for a couple of days at least are removed to somewhere temporary in the garden if it's dry or to the workshop to be quarantined for a couple of days (not sure what we'd do about food as we tend not to order that online). The boxes (dirty because they were last touched minutes ago by the delivery driver) get dumped in the workshop for an unspecified period until we re-use or recycle. For picking stuff up I've a nackered old pair of scissors that live in a bucket at the moment (they're both dirty). Then of course, the washing of hands. We're mindful that during an extended pandemic consumables like gloves & anti bac could be difficult to replace so we're trying to think of less disposable solutions - my plan b is fire so the bucket is an old steel one that I could just pop in the driveway and deal with the contents if need be. As for supermarket strategies, that's a different ball game - we did that today. Yes, if you want to go full on OCD then it's a lot of work - but then you weigh that up against the risk

My hands would be even more red raw using disinfectants at every turn. I use nitrile gloves all the time to protect them due to skin problems as in cutting a tomato breaks my hands out. Soap and water will have to suffice for me.
