Hi everyone,
My boyfriend and I are looking to buy a flat later this year. He is on a permanent contract (23k) while I am on a zero hours contract (minimum wage - around 17k) and have just started a new job. We have a deposit of 20k, about 13% as we are looking to buy a place in the region of 140-150k. I know it can be difficult to get a mortgage on a zero hour contract, especially without being in the job long term - do you think this will cause problems even though we have a strong deposit and my partner has a fixed income?
Thanks!

How long has he been a contractor for?
How long is left on his contact?
    Has it ever been extended?

Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • He has a permanent job and has had it for nearly 2 years. Has what ever been extended?

Apologies I misread it and thought it said a fixed term contract.

Lenders will want your partner as being the first applicant, with you as the second applicant, due to your zero hours.

As long as you use a good independent whole of market mortgage broker, they should be able to place you with the right lender.
