Do I Pay for Replacement or Council?
Hi,
New tenant looking for a bit of advice...
I moved into a new build under tenancy with my council. After being in property 2 months we have had a number of plumbing issues as expected being new & teething problems occurring.
We had an overflow of water from downstairs WC ..this flooded hallway & caused damage to flooring which now needs to be replaced.
Since reporting to the council they have advised the flooding is due to nappies & wipes in the drainage system. I told them I haven’t put any down there and they explained it could come from anywhere in my street.
I have been told I have to replace the flooring myself.
Is this correct? Is it my responsibility to replace the damaged flooring even if not my doing? I am worried if this happens again I will need to replace again and so on.

Then it's down to you to replace.I've never had flooring in any council & housing association property I've had, concrete floor that's it
this is exactly why they don't include it for tenants. Because they'd then otherwise be responsible for replacing it.0 -
Oh right I see ...thank you for your help!0
