I recently had a p800 claiming I’m owed a refund from 3 years ago and that I should revive a cheque within 2 weeks but the problem is the national insurance number on the letter is different to my own, Everything else Is right, my old employer, address and name. What does this mean?

Do you think you're due a refund, other than the letter?
If it does look genuine, call HMRC and talk to them about it. But, don't use any numbers on the letter unless it's this 0300 200 3300.0 -

Not dead only sleeping?
One hears of HMRC email type scams but a scam p800 seems unlikely.
Have you looked at your personal tax account?
