Finding out about bankruptcy

Hope you folks can advise, a tricky domestic situation.
I have discovered - the hard way - that my significant other is/was made bankrupt in 2015, a sheepish declaration shall we say the other evening. No further information was forthcoming as I think the discussion hit a raw nerve and I really didn't want an argument about it. Having no real knowledge of what it entails, I've always been solvent and I'm not a fan of financing/credit, I did find a record of it in the London Gazette, which I understand is where such things are published.
It doesn't tell me much though.
Am I able to find out any more than this, ie, how much the debt was or anything like that? If money is still owed to anyone? Am I going to end up associated with any past debts or stuff like that if a joint mortgage, loan, creditcards, etc, were applied for.
Anyone want to bring me up to speed here?
Thanks in advance!

There will be information such as defaulted accounts on his credit files, this will give an insight to the level of debt involved. Assuming he cooperated with the OR everything will be done with now, the debts are not enforceable and no creditor will be expecting repayment(they've had everything they'd have been entitled to)If you had joi t accounts its likely that he will be a connected person on your credit file, this will likely have impacted your ability to get credit. You could be joint and severally liable for any debt taken out in joint names, but it's likely that you would have heard about that by now(you'd probably have heard in the first year)The good news is that 6 years (so 2021) after bankruptcy the credit files clear up (the accounts and bankruptcy drop off), of course the entry in the London gazette will be there forever, but not many people look at that. Going forward the long term impact comes from the 'have you ever been declared bankrupt ?' type of questions, which he will have to answer that he has been2

Thanks for the heads up.
It was at the discussion about setting up joint accounts for things is when it came up, so we've not got that far ahead. I did ask what happened but then she clammed up and it became apparant it wasn't up for discussion which annoyed me rather.
I have an inkling it was for rent arrears and thats borne out by the Gazette record which shows a property company who must have applied for bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy is not the scandal it once was you know, its just another way to deal with an impossible debt situation, and in my opinion, an option more people should take advantage of.
She may not want to discuss it with you if you come across all high and mighty about how carp she is with her money.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
