Found house, wife on maternity

Hi All,

I hope you are well on this Friday!
My wife and I have been house hunting for almost a year, in that time, our current property has had a very patient buyer!!
My wife had 1 year maternity leave which is due to finish in April where she will return to work.

We found a house yesterday and put an offer in which was accepted. I am just having serious anxiety right now however as today we will move our mortgage in principle with Barclays to the next stage, I am just worried about my wife’s maternity leave having a negative impact. I imagine a decision would be made before or just as she returns to work, so will we just have to tell them she is going back and that’s it?

Thanks!

You will have to get a letter from her employer saying she is going back, it may need to confirm her hours and salary.

But it is fairly straightforward, based on other posts on the forum.

Don't forget, child care may knock your affordability down, unless it's grandparents who are having that pleasure or you work opposite hours to each other etc.

My girlfriend is on maternity at the moment, and we've just exchanged. She's going back in May, we just had to provide a letter from her employer stating that she's intending to go back to work on X date. It really shouldn't be an issue though so don't worry about it, especially not with such a narrow window.
