MSE Poll: Do you have a will?

Poll started 3 March 2020

If you want to dictate where your assets go when you die, you need a will. Die without one and on top of the grief, it can cause a financial nightmare for the people you care about. A will can be made cheaply, and sometimes for free (see our Cheap Wills guide). So do you have a will and if not, why not?

  • Can't understand anyone not making a will, especially seeing the trouble not having one causes.

The poll is well intended but the displayed results are rubbish. Surely we need graphs/tables showing everything in one place, not a whole list of boxes with various age/yes/no answers. Simple graph - have you a will, yes or no, versus age is all that is required.

Whilst wills are very important to ensure what we have when we die goes to the persons we want it too, most of us know that it will go there even without a will.  What is also very important is "do you have POAs in place"?  Who do you want to take care of your finances & health when for some reason, even if only temporary, you are not able to.  Do you really want your local authority to have the final say, or the child who has come & done your cleaning & cooked your tea for the last x years.  Or do you want to come out of hospital after a 6 months stay to find red letters littering your hall & DD bounces all over you current account because you haven't been able to transfer money where it was needed!
